JOSE CASTAÑEDA LEPOV

Season: Rondo 0

About the artist: Residing and working in Mexico City, this artist’s primary focus lies in graphically and pictorially representing various models through mediums such as drawing, painting, installation, audiovisuals, and postal art. Drawing inspiration from the works of Gustav Doré, Armando Reverón, Gerhard Richter, Melecio Galván, Felipe Ehrenberg, and Francis Alÿs, they engage in a meticulous process of study, research, analysis, collection, selection, and abstraction of materials. This process involves exploring the wear, passage of time, and transformation of objects found in their everyday environment, including animal bones, negatives, photographs, and obsolete technical specifications.

SUSANA GÓMEZ-ORTIZ

Season: Rondo 0

About the artist: Crisis and confusion ignited my artistic journey, leading me to grapple with the dichotomy between content and form during my formative years in art school. Through stubborn perseverance, I developed a practice of obsessive self-review, now integral to my artistic process. Currently, I’m reminiscent of a pivotal moment in 2008 when I began exploring desire and self-perception through a large-scale ink drawing series. This journey, originating from photographing angles of my body inaccessible to direct view, uncovered profound mysteries within myself and the world. My artistic evolution has been a meandering path, embracing different mediums to navigate uncertainty and communicate personal truths. Over time, my work has emerged as a collection of images filling voids in the world, reflecting a core theme of personal exploration and expression.

SANTIAGO GÓMEZ

Season: Rondo 0

Bio: Born in Bogotá in 1992, is an artist and researcher based in Mexico City. He graduated with honors from the Universidad Distrital in 2016 and the Faculty of Philosophy of the Universidad de la Salle in 2015. He was part of the 2019 cohort of the SOMA educational program and received an honorable mention in Visual Arts from UNAM in 2020. Gómez has been awarded various grants and residencies through his career.

His practice navigates the inconsistencies of a highly unstable world through the intervention and design of fictions: ‘hybrid objects’ that question the ideological burdens of matter and its hypercultural status.
